Established in September 1982 in Bhalki, Bidar district — at the northern tip of Karnataka — BKIT has grown into one of the region's most trusted engineering institutions.
Founded as Rural Engineering College, Bhalki in September 1982 under the visionary leadership of Dr. Bheemanna Khandre — freedom fighter and former minister in the Government of Karnataka — the institute is run by the S.V.E. Society and today bears its founder's name. It carries the complete character of a regional engineering college: roughly half its students come from Karnataka, the other half from states across India — Bihar, Jharkhand, Delhi, UP, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Assam, Manipur, West Bengal, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh.
The institute is approved by AICTE, New Delhi, affiliated to VTU, Belagavi and sanctioned by the Government of Karnataka. Its courses are accredited by NBA, and the institution holds a NAAC B++ grade along with accreditation from the Institution of Engineers (India), Kolkata.
The residential campus houses academic blocks, hostels for over a thousand students, a central library, sports grounds, a solar park and an EDUSAT satellite education centre — everything within walking distance.
